General Situation

The number of schools at various levels: All types of schools reaches the number of 10,813 (not including the number of institutions); of which, 3,808 kindergartens, 5,103 primary school, 1,200 junior middle schools, 243 ordinary high schools, 336 secondary occupation school, 58 regular institutions of higher education, 14 adult colleges.

The number of students at all levels: 3,935,000 students study for levels of degree program in Jilin Province. Among them, 442,000 children in the kindergarten; 1,362,000 students in primary school; 645,000 in junior high school; 453,000 in ordinary high school; 193,000 for secondary vocational education; 834,000 for types of higher education (including adult higher education).

Higher Education: 22 institutions offering postgraduate program, including 5 postgraduate institutes and 17 colleges or universities. Totally there are 58 colleges and universities (including 7 independent institutes), with 2 universities subordinating to MOE while 16 private, 1 belonging to "985 Project" and 3 including in "211 Project". By forms of school running, Jilin University owns 37 undergraduate colleges, 21 vocational schools. In addition, 14 adult colleges or universities are set independently.

Jilin University

Jilin University is a leading national research university under the direct jurisdiction of China's Ministry of Education. Located in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin Province in Northeast China, the university has seven campuses in six districts which are home to thirty-nine colleges covering thirteen academic disciplines, including philosophy, international relations, economics, law, literature, education, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and military science. The University has thirteen disciplinary areas, six national key laboratories, and seven national bases for the development of basic science. Other resources include five research bases for humanities and social sciences, eleven key laboratories sponsored by the Ministry of Education and eleven by other ministries of Chinese government.

Jilin University is one of the most prestigious "Top 10" universities in China, and has several research projects in automobile engineering, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering and biology. JLU also provides undergraduate and graduate programs in law, literature, philosophy, medicine and veterinary science. It is one of the key universities involved in China's Project 985, Project 211 and Project 2011.

Jilin University is a comprehensive and national key university. JLU offers a variety of degree programs. It has now 115 undergraduate programs, 192 Master's degree program, 105 doctoral degree programs, and seventeen post-doctoral programs. In 2003 the university enrolled 59,000 full-time students, including more than 10,000 graduate students. At present there are 6,540 faculty members, with twenty members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1270 full professors, and 1652 associate professors.

Northeast Normal University

Northeast Normal University (NENU) is an institution of higher learning under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, being selected as one of the universities given priority in construction in the "211 Project". The university, located in Changchun city, Jilin province, occupies an area of 1,500,000 square meters, including 800,000 square meters of the main campus and 700,000 square meters of the new campus.

NENU's predecessor is Northeast University, the first comprehensive university founded by the Communist Party in Northeast China in Benxi, Liaoning province, in February 1946. In 1949, the school was moved to Changchun City and renamed Northeast Normal University in 1950.

NENU presently comprises 19 schools, 56 undergraduate specialties and a graduate school, which offers 145 M.A. degree specialties, and 77 Ph.D. degree specialties. There are nine faculties authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 11 disciplines with Post-doctoral R&D Stations, five key disciplines of the National Institution of Higher Education, six disciplines among the construction projects of the key disciplines of the national "Tenth Five-Year Plan" and the "211 Project" and 18 disciplines among the key subject program of Jilin Province. Three disciplines are personnel training and scientific research bases of the national fundamental disciplines of arts and sciences; two disciplines are among the key research bases for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education; eight laboratories and research centers are authorized by the ministry. In addition, NENU possesses several national training programs and research institutes such as Preparatory School for Chinese Students to Japan (PSCSJ).

Jilin Normal University

Jilin Normal University is a university in Siping, Jilin, northeast China. It was formerly known as the Siping Normal Institute (Chinese: 四平师范大学; pinyin: Sìpíng Shīfàn Dàxué). It is a very important and major normal university in Jilin Province, Northeast of China. This university was founded in the year of 1958. It is Jilin provincial teachers training center and it has trained more than 2,2000 teachers in recent years via various types of seminars and classes. From foundation up to the present, this school has cultivated more than 80,000 all kinds of talents for the nation. Jilin Normal University covers more than 920,000 square metres totally and its building area covers more than 500,000 square meters. The campus environment is extremely good with advanced basic teaching facilities. It has 22 colleges, 2 teaching sections, 27 research institutions and 117 labs now. Its teaching staff contains 1493 persons, wherein 994 persons are full-time teachers. There are 10 doctorate tutors, 230 master degree tutors, 212 professors and 210 associate professors teaching 55 undergraduate majors in this school now.

Changchun University of Science and Technology

Changchun University of Science and Technology is a provincial key university, previously known as Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. The university was founded in 1958 in Changchun, Jilin, China.

After half a century's development and construction, Changchun University of Science and Technology has been developed into a multidisciplinary university with opto-electronic technology as its outstanding feature and with the integration of optics, mechanics, electronics, computer science as well as material science as its superiority.

Following the educational philosophy of 'Focusing on Cultivation, Advocating Science' and the university motto of 'Virtuous, Learned, truthful, Innovative', the university is endeavoring to reach the goal of 'provincially top, nationally advanced, and internationally well-known'.

Changchun University of Science and Technology has accepted nearly 1000 international students since 1987. The international students mostly come from over 30 countries such as the United States, Russia, Britain, Canada, Norway, Korea, Sudan, Mongolia, DPRK, Vietnam, Japan, Mali, Kenya and Micronesia.

Changchun American International School

Changchun American International School(CAIS) is the first Pre-K -12 international school in Jilin Province and is authorized by Provincial and Central Governments. The school serves children of China's global expatriate communities.

CAIS only had a few students when it started in 2007, but today over 300 students from more than 30 different countries attend the school. Our qualified faculty members come from 20 countries and offer courses in English, Mandarin, German, French, Spanish, Korean, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, History, Business and Management, Economics, Geography, Psychology, ITGS, PE, Art and Music.

In addition, an extensive extra-curricular program is offered to students, allowing them to develop hobbies and interests. In 2009, the Virtual World 3D technology was introduced to CAIS. In 2013 CAIS began its 1:1 iPad pilot program embracing the iPad as a valuable teaching tool. With the iPad, the Internet and teaching have been intertwined. CAIS is also a registered Cambridge (UK) exam test centre administering standardized English language tests for students of many ages. CAIS offers tests twice a year at two different levels, in our PYP and MYP programs.

As an IB World School, CAIS graduates have access to more than 2,500 universities in nearly 146 nations which receive IB DP graduates, including America's Ivy League schools and the universities of Cambridge and Oxford in the United Kingdom.
